Classified as Britain's only desert, due to it's dryness and spectacular lack of surface vegetation, it has the bare and windblown appearance of some Wild West border zone: all stones and shacks and the lone whistle of the Romney Railway Loco drifting across the emptiness.
Dotted across the scene are artists, fish-smokers, sellers of mystical artefacts and of course, the employees of the nuclear power plant which, while it can't be ignored, doesn't quite dominate in the way you would imagine.
There can't be many parts of the country where an atomic reactor can go unnoticed, but out here on the edge of Britain, there's still plenty of skyline to go around.

This really is a unique pocket of England. I was transfixed by the bizarre but intriguing landscape. These fishing boats sat comfortably on the English Desert in front of one of the world’s busiest waterways - the English Channel. One of my favourite images and it comes to life when printed on my Fotospeed Platinum Baryta 300 paper.
