Photography Competitions

I've never been one for entering photography competitions, probably because I'm afraid of rejection, like most of us are. So it was a surprise to me that I was persuaded to enter a couple on the Photocrowd Website.  Photocrowd is a global community of photographers, of all levels and interests, and a platform for some of the best photo contests and photo awards around. It's a place where photographers find inspiration and connect with other photographers. However, I had joined, never posted anything and had forgotten all about it.

It wasn't until a friend had been successful in winning one of the competitions that I remembered it and thought I'd take another look. And so, without too much thought I entered the image below into the New Members Competition and to my surprise it was voted the winner in a field of 100 images. Not a bad start, so encouraged by this, I entered the same image into a Summer Landscapes Competition backed my Nikon's N-Photo Magazine. As soon as I did, I regretted it, a field of over 1000 photos taken by over 800 photographers. What an idiot, I'd been sucked into the very thing I didn't feel comfortable with - competitions!!! So, I forgot all about it until voting neared its end where I found out I had finished 4th - which I was pretty shocked with considering I would have been delighted to have taken half of the images entered and the standard was so high.

I still have very serious reservations about Photography Competitions and I don't feel comfortable with them, although I accept some enjoy them. I guess it's like photography, it's subjective, a matter of opinion and there's no right or wrong or good or bad. Just not for me......
